Government e-services, bank and identity checks, visa and university application portals, and some email systems with a per-file limit. It is the most common cap for a document that runs to many pages, such as a scanned contract or a bank statement.

A scan of about twenty pages usually fits, and a document made from real text fits at almost any length. A scanned book or a report full of colour photos may stop above 2 MB; the result then shows the smallest it could make, and you can split the file into parts.

Because the size box counts in kilobytes, and 2 MB is 2,048 of them. The tool keeps the file under 2,048,000 bytes, which passes a form that counts a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes and one that counts it as 1,048,576.

Text, lines and drawings stay exactly as they were. Photos and scans are lowered in resolution only as far as the limit needs, and at 2 MB most documents keep their pictures looking much as before.
