Frequently asked questions about Translate PDF

Where does the translation happen?

Entirely on your own machine. The PDF is read by your browser, the translation is done by the translation engine built into the browser itself, and the file you download is built there too. Nothing is uploaded, because there is no translation service behind this tool at all.

Which browsers does it work in?

Chrome and Edge. The engine it uses is built into those browsers and is not available in Firefox or Safari, so the tool says so on the page rather than letting you choose a file and fail afterwards.

Which languages can I translate between?

Forty-three, Bangla and English included. The first time you use a particular pair your browser may download that language pack, which takes a moment and then never happens again. Some pairs are refused outright by the engine, and you are told which straight away.

Do I get a PDF back?

You get the translated text, side by side with the original so you can check a sentence against its source, and a .txt download. The original layout is not rebuilt — this is a tool for reading and quoting a document in another language, not for producing a translated copy of the file.

What happens to my file?

Nothing leaves this machine. Your browser opens the PDF, translates it with the engine built into the browser, and builds the download there too — no request is made to us or to anyone else, so there is no copy anywhere to keep or to delete.

Is it free?

Yes. Every tool works without paying and without an account. Files can be up to 200 pages and 80 MB, and a run that fails costs you nothing.

Do I need to create an account?

No. All tools work without signing in. An account raises your hourly allowance and lets you see what you have processed.
