The result shows the new size, or says plainly that the file stopped above 50 KB.
50 KB on our test files
Eight real files, each compressed on this setting. “Page DPI” is how sharp the pictures inside ended up: 300 is a good scan, 150 is fine on screen, 50 is the edge of readable. Measured on October 21, 2026.
| Test file | Before | After | Under 50 KB? | Page DPI after |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typed letter, 3 pages | 32 KB | 32 KB | Already under | No pictures |
| Invoice with a logo, 1 page | 42 KB | 42 KB | Already under | Logo unchanged |
| Letter with one photo, 3 pages | 415 KB | 51 KB | No, 1 KB over | 36 |
| Scanned letter, 1 page, grayscale | 1.5 MB | 44 KB | Yes | 50 |
| Scanned invoice, 1 page, color | 1.0 MB | 29 KB | Yes | 72 |
| Scanned letter, 3 pages, grayscale | 4.0 MB | 51 KB | No, 1 KB over | 36 |
| Photo brochure, 6 pages | 1.27 MB | 36 KB | Yes | 36 |
| Scanned report, 12 pages, color | 16.7 MB | 203 KB | No | 36 |
The pattern is simple: one or two scanned pages fit, three is a coin toss, and more do not. The photo brochure fitted only because 36 DPI photos are tiny; they look like thumbnails.
Two of ours stopped just over the line, at 51 KB. With the last page taken out, both fitted: 47 KB and 48 KB.
Who asks for 50 KB
A limit this small usually comes from an older upload system, often a recruitment, exam or application portal that takes each certificate as its own small PDF. If the form lets you upload more than one file, one page per file is the easiest way to fit.

Frequently asked questions about Compress PDF to 50 KB
Can any PDF be compressed to 50 KB?
No. Only the pictures in a PDF can be made smaller. A one-page scan has one picture and fits easily. A three-page scan is right at the edge, and a document with many pages or many fonts has a floor it cannot go below. In our tests, a three-page scan stopped at 51 KB.
Will a 50 KB scan still be readable?
A one-page letter scan came out at 44 KB with the page at 50 DPI: the words read clearly on screen, though the letters are soft and small print gets hard to make out. A full-page color scan at 72 DPI came to 29 KB and read well.
My PDF is text only and still over 50 KB. Why?
Text PDFs are mostly fonts, and fonts do not shrink. A typed letter is usually 30 to 60 KB however hard it is squeezed. If yours is over 50 KB, take out pages you do not need or ask whether the form accepts a JPG of the page instead.
Is 50 KB counted as 50,000 or 51,200 bytes?
Forms differ, so the tool keeps the file under 50,000 bytes, which passes both ways of counting.
What if it stops at 52 or 55 KB?
Remove a page with Organize PDF, or split the file and upload the parts separately if the form allows it. Fewer pages is the only thing that gets past the floor.
