Frequently asked questions about Mangal to Kruti Dev
Why can't I just change the font from Mangal to Kruti Dev?
Because the two store Hindi differently. Mangal text is Unicode: real Hindi letters. Kruti Dev text is English letters and symbols that the Kruti Dev 010 font draws as Hindi. If you select Mangal text in Word and pick Kruti Dev 010, you get the wrong letters. The text has to be converted first, which is what this page does.
Is Mangal the same as Unicode?
For this job, yes. Mangal is a Unicode Hindi font that comes with Windows, so people often say Mangal when they mean Unicode. Nirmala UI and Noto Sans Devanagari are Unicode fonts too, and text typed in any of them is the same Unicode text. Kruti Dev is different: it is not Unicode, so the text has to be converted, not just given another font.
Why does the result look like English letters?
Kruti Dev stores Hindi as English letters and symbols, and the Kruti Dev 010 font draws them as Hindi. Without that font you see the letters themselves, such as “vkSj” for और. Select the text in Word, choose Kruti Dev 010, and it reads as Hindi.
What happens to English words?
English letters are Kruti Dev codes too, so in the Kruti Dev font an English word turns into Hindi-looking letters. In pasted text, English words are left unchanged and the page tells you how many there are; after pasting, select them and give them an English font such as Arial. In Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, only the Hindi text is converted and set in Kruti Dev 010, so English keeps its own font.
Can I convert a whole Word file typed in Mangal?
Yes. Drop a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx file below the text box. Hindi in Mangal or any other Unicode font is converted and set in Kruti Dev 010, English keeps its own font, and you download the file with -krutidev added to its name.
Are my text and files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in this browser tab, so your text and files stay on your device. Nothing you paste is saved, not even in the browser, so closing the tab clears it.
Is it free?
Yes. Every tool works without paying and without an account. Files can be up to 200 pages and 50 MB, and a run that fails costs you nothing. Pro removes the limits.
Do I need to create an account?
No. All tools work without signing in. An account raises your allowance and lets you see what you have processed.
