Who needs an account, and for what

Many sites say "no sign-up" and mean only one of these. Here is each case.

The sender needs an account because the request goes out in their name, the emails need a real reply address, and the finished file has to be delivered to someone.

Signing your own PDF, step by step

  1. Drop the PDF in the box at the top.
  2. Choose how to make your signature: draw it with a mouse or finger, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of it on white paper.
  3. Click where it goes; drag the corners to resize it. Add the date or your initials the same way.
  4. Download. That is the whole thing, and there is no sign-up anywhere in it.

Why "no sign-up" pages often turn into one

The pages that rank for this search are a mix: some sign your own file with no account, some make you sign up at the download, and a few send to others. The honest line is the one in the table above. Signing yourself should never need an account. Sending to someone else needs one for the sender, on every service we have looked at, including the ones that say otherwise on the first screen.

When you need someone else's signature

Use the button below the tool, or go to Request Signatures. You prepare the whole request first, and only make the free account at the end, when you press Send. The Free plan has a limited allowance of requests each calendar month; Pro removes the limits.

A drawn signature is not a digital signature

What you add here is a picture of your signature, which is what most forms ask for. If a portal or a bank asks for a digital signature, it means one made with a certificate. Digital Signature does that, also with no account, and can make you a free self-signed Digital ID if you have no certificate yet.
