Converting files

How do I save just one page of a PDF as a JPG?

Open PDF to JPG, add the PDF, type the page number in the pages box and convert. You get that one page as a single JPG, drawn at 150 DPI unless you choose 72 or 300, with no ZIP to open.

Often you do not need the whole document as images. You need one page: the flyer to post, the ticket to show at the door, the chart for a slide, the certificate to send in a chat.

Converting every page and digging through a ZIP for the right one is a waste of time. Ask for just that page.

Step by step

  1. Open PDF to JPG and add your PDF.
  2. In the pages box, type the page number, for example 3.
  3. Convert and download. One page comes back as a single JPG, not a ZIP.

For a few pages, type a range such as 2-4 or a list such as 1,3,7. Those come back together in one ZIP, one JPG per page.

How sharp is the JPG?

Pages are drawn at 150 DPI unless you choose otherwise. An A4 page becomes about 1240 × 1754 pixels, and a US Letter page 1275 × 1650. That is sharper than most phone and laptop screens need for a full page. If the JPG will be printed, choose 300 DPI under Resolution; for a small image on a web page, 72 DPI is enough.

If the page is mostly small text, a table or a diagram, PDF to PNG keeps the edges of the letters crisper than JPG. JPG is the better choice for pages that are mostly photos, and it makes smaller files.

Sending it in a chat

Many chat apps shrink photos you send, to save data. A page of text can arrive noticeably softer than the JPG you made.

To keep it sharp, send the JPG as a file or document instead of as a photo, if your app offers that. The person receiving it gets the image exactly as you made it.

Posting it on social media

A PDF page is tall and narrow. A4 is about 1 : 1.41, taller than most social feeds show without cropping. Feeds that crop portrait images will cut off the top and bottom of the page.

So check the preview before you post. If the important part is in the middle, crop the JPG to it in your gallery app first. A cropped section of the page also reads better on a small screen than the whole page at a tiny size.

Putting it in a slide or document

A JPG of a page drops straight into PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides or Word. For a page that is mostly text or a chart, a PNG will look cleaner on a projector.

When you want the page as a PDF instead

If the person needs a document rather than a picture, send just that page as a PDF. Split PDF extracts it, and the text stays sharp at any zoom and can still be selected and searched.

A locked PDF

If the PDF asks for a password to open, remove it first with Unlock PDF, using the password you already have, and convert the unlocked copy.

Common questions

Can I convert just one page of a PDF to JPG?

Yes. Type the page number in the pages box of PDF to JPG. You get a single JPG, not a ZIP.

What size is the JPG?

At the standard 150 DPI an A4 page is about 1240 × 1754 pixels and a US Letter page 1275 × 1650. Choose 300 DPI to double both, or 72 DPI for a small web image.

Why does my JPG look blurry after sending it on a chat app?

Many chat apps shrink photos. Send the JPG as a file or document instead of as a photo to keep it exactly as it is.
