How to edit a PDF

PDFs were designed to look identical everywhere, which is exactly what makes them awkward to change: the format stores where each character sits on the page, not paragraphs you can retype. Editing one well means working with that, not against it.

Step by step

  1. Open the document

    Drag your PDF onto the PDF Editor. It opens with the existing text already selectable — nothing is uploaded until you save, so you can look before you commit.

  2. Click the line you want to change

    Click directly on any line of text and retype it. The editor matches the original font, size and position, so a small correction stays invisible rather than announcing itself.

  3. Add anything that isn't there yet

    The tool rail adds text boxes, images, shapes, highlights and signatures anywhere on the page. Whiteout covers something you want gone without leaving a gap in the layout.

  4. Check the pages, then save

    Reorder, rotate, duplicate or delete pages from the sidebar. Save Changes writes everything into the PDF itself and shows you a preview before the download.

If clicking the text does nothing

Your PDF is probably a scan — a photograph of a page rather than a document with real text. There is nothing to click because there is no text layer. The OCR PDF tool handles that case: it recognises the words and rebuilds them as editable text while the original page stays underneath.

Why edited text sometimes looks slightly different

A PDF only embeds the characters it actually uses. If the original used a font that is not embedded in full, a replacement character has to come from somewhere else, and the shapes can differ subtly. Keeping edits short and checking the preview is the practical answer.
