Everything WebP to PNG can do

Turn WebP pictures into PNG files with transparent backgrounds kept. Free, in your browser.

Transparency

  • Clear and half-clear pixels copied as they are, so a cut-out logo stays cut out
  • Nothing painted in behind the picture

The PNG file

  • No quality setting, because PNG drops nothing when it saves
  • Edit and save it again as often as you like with no further loss
  • Expect a much larger file: our 30 KB test photo became a 531 KB PNG

How it works

WebP to PNG in three steps

Add your WebP files

One or several. Logos, stickers and icons with a clear background are fine.

PNG is already chosen

There is no quality to set: a PNG loses no detail. Choose Make smaller only if you need fewer pixels.

Download your PNGs

One picture downloads as a PNG; several come together in a ZIP. It all happens in your browser.

Frequently asked questions about WebP to PNG

Does the transparent background stay?

Yes. PNG can be see-through, including soft, half-transparent edges, so a logo or sticker with a clear background stays clear. Nothing is filled in.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the WebP?

Most WebP pictures are compressed in a way that drops detail, while a PNG stores every pixel without loss. Our 30 KB test photo came out as a 531 KB PNG, and a 4 KB logo as a 45 KB PNG. To bring it down, run the PNG through Compress Image, or use WebP to JPG if you do not need transparency.

Does converting to PNG bring back lost quality?

No. The PNG holds exactly what the WebP shows, and detail the WebP already threw away cannot come back. What PNG does give you is no further loss: you can edit and save it again and again without it getting worse.

When is PNG the better choice than JPG?

For logos, icons, stickers, screenshots and graphics with text, for anything that needs a see-through background, and for pictures you are going to edit. For ordinary photos, JPG gives a much smaller file.

Can I make the pictures smaller in pixels at the same time?

Yes. Under Size, choose Make smaller and type a width, a height or both. The shape is kept, and a picture is never made larger than it is.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the WebP and writes the PNG on this device. We only count that a task ran.
