Turn .jfif pictures into normal .jpg files in your browser, with no loss at all.

No loss

  • The colour profile kept, so colours look the same
  • Upright, with the phone's turn kept as a tiny tag

Clean files

  • Location, camera details and comments taken out
  • Each file keeps its name, ending in .jpg
  • Or pick a quality to make the pictures smaller as well
  • Made on your device: nothing is uploaded

How it works

JFIF to JPG in three steps

Add your .jfif files

Drop in one picture or a whole folder of them. JPG, PNG and WebP pictures can go in with them.

As it is is already chosen

The picture is copied into a .jpg without being saved again, so it keeps every bit of its quality. Choose a quality instead only if you also want it smaller.

Download your JPGs

Each file keeps its name with .jpg at the end. Several come together in one ZIP, made in your browser.

Frequently asked questions about JFIF to JPG

What is a JFIF file?

It is a JPG. JFIF is the name of the standard most JPG pictures follow, and some programs, Windows in particular, save pictures from websites with the .jfif ending instead of .jpg. The picture inside is the same kind; only the name differs.

Why do pictures I save end up as .jfif?

A setting in Windows links the JPEG picture type to the .jfif ending, so some browsers on Windows use it when you choose Save image as. The file is fine, but upload forms, older apps and some phones only accept files that end in .jpg or .jpeg.

Can I just rename .jfif to .jpg?

Yes, for one file that works, since the picture is already a JPG. This page does the same for many files at once, and also takes out hidden details such as where the photo was taken. With As it is, the picture data is copied byte for byte, exactly as renaming would leave it.

Will my picture lose quality?

Not with As it is: the picture is not compressed again, so the JPG looks exactly like the JFIF. If you choose a quality such as 90 or 80, the picture is saved again, which makes it smaller and can soften fine detail a little.

How do I stop Windows saving pictures as .jfif?

The ending comes from a setting in the Windows registry that links JPEG pictures to .jfif. Changing it back to .jpg is possible, but editing the registry can break other things, so converting the files you already have is the safer choice.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The JPG is made by your browser on this device. Only a set that also holds an iPhone HEIC photo goes to our server, and it is deleted once converted.

How many pictures can I convert at once?

Up to 10 at a time without an account, and 50 when you are signed in. They all get the same settings and download together in one ZIP. If one picture cannot be read, the others still finish and the page lists the one that did not.
