Everything PNG to JPG can do

Turn PNG screenshots and images into smaller JPGs, with see-through parts filled with the colour you pick. Free, in your browser.

How much smaller

  • A photo kept as PNG shrinks the most: ours went from 583 KB to 99 KB
  • A screenshot shrinks less: ours went from 417 KB to 211 KB at High (90)
  • A flat logo can grow: ours went from 9.6 KB to 13.6 KB, so keep logos as PNG

See-through parts

  • Filled with white unless you choose black or another colour
  • Soft edges blended into that colour, not left jagged

How it works

Add your PNG files

One or many. Screenshots, scans and exported images all work.

JPG is already chosen

Quality 90 suits most pictures. Under Background, choose what see-through parts become: white unless you change it.

Each picture is listed with its new size next to the old one. Several come together in a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions about PNG to JPG

Why is the JPG so much smaller than my PNG?

A PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which suits simple graphics but makes photos and photo-like screenshots heavy. A JPG leaves out detail the eye barely notices, so a photo saved as PNG often drops to a fraction of its size: our test photo went from 583 KB to 99 KB at High (90), and a 2472 × 1788 screenshot from 417 KB to 211 KB. A flat logo with a few colours may hardly shrink, or even grow, as ours did from 9.6 KB to 13.6 KB; for those, keep the PNG or use Compress Image.

What happens to a transparent background?

A JPG cannot be see-through, so transparent parts are filled with white unless you choose black or another colour under Background. Soft edges are blended into that colour, so a logo made for a dark page looks right on black.

Will text in a screenshot stay sharp?

At High (90) or Best (95) text stays clear. JPG can leave faint smudges around hard edges, most visible at Small file (65). For screenshots full of small text, Best keeps them cleanest, or keep the PNG.

Which should I send, PNG or JPG?

JPG for photos, and for emails and forms with a size limit. PNG for logos, icons and diagrams, and anything that needs a see-through background.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The JPG is made by your browser on this device. Only a set that also holds an iPhone HEIC photo goes to our server, and it is deleted once converted.
